Dr. Sowunmi had a vision; to see his homeland produce show quality dogs on par with the leading breeders around the world. With over 20 years of experience in handling and showing pure bred dogs, international affiliations, and an extraordinary team of partners; he is making this dream a reality.
As a Medical Doctor, Clinical Documentation Improvement and Data specialist, Dr. Sowunmi brings to COBA a wealth of experience in both scientific and cynological advancements and a proven ability in building coalitions around a common vision. Through collaborative partnerships and new initiatives, Dr. Sowunmi saw the need to empower dog owners and breeders throughout West and Central Africa, through education, innovative technology and scientific research. These initiatives, he believes, will reshape and redefine Nigeria’s place in this movement sweeping across the continent.
Prior to founding COBA in 2019, Dr. Kunle was very instrumental in championing the condition of pure-bred dogs in Nigeria and introducing professional dog breeding and showing to the country. He founded the West and Central African Dog Breeders Association in 2016 and has since lead a host of campaigns to help address unmet health needs of both humans and their canine companions in West Africa. Under his leadership, WACADBA organized and established:
1. The West and Central African Canine Genome project in partnership with the United States National Institute of Health in 2019
2. The First German-Style Rottweiler Demonstration Show – in Ghana and Nigeria - 2017
He has also consulted and assisted many Kennel Clubs and Canine Organization across the region.
Presently, Dr. Sowunmi chairs the board of directors for COBA.
